Moving to Orlando on Saturday for college so Ive been trying to downsize and consolidate my tanks and fish equipment. Welllll, as I was bringing in some of my smaller tanks to the LFS to try and get a few bucks and what do I see?
A nice big beautiful 175 gallon Oceanic Bowfront that someone had just brought in because they were moving. Just so happens that I had already paid first months rent and still had a bit left in my account and pay day was today so after mulling it over for a few minutes I decided to go for it.
Im now the proud owner of a somewhat large aquarium, at least much larger than the 75 and 55 gallon that I have now. It didn't come with lights but I picked up two double bulbs t8 fixtures and lights today and I cleaned up the sump a bit. The tank was used for saltwater so its got a bit of coralline algae but it should come off during the first week of cycling (I have to come back home sunday through thursday to work until I can find something steady in Orlando and/or until classes start on the 24th). I plan on setting it up Saturday and letting it run with a dozen or so goldfish until I bring my fish and established filters up next weekend (I already have all the fish and the metriaclima species were separated but will be combined in the large tank because i am getting rid of the 55 and 75).
For now the stocklist is as follows:
8 metriaclima grasheki
9 metriaclima estherae
5 pseudotropheus polit
5 labidochromis caeruleus
7 labeotropheus trewavasae
5 metriaclima pyrsonotos albino
1 pr auloncara jacobfreibergi
1 pr ancistrus sp.
Im not sure if Im going to keep the malawi setup or switch back to south americans, most likely discus, but I wont make a decision for a while and it will probably be a month until the tank is completely setup and all scaped out.
Anyways, heres a few pics of the tank in the shop and the filter which I took home to clean.
(The shop had a new stand/cabinet ordered to replace the pressboard one that is rotting away and it should be ready tomorrow for pickup)
