So I saw a couple of tanks listed on Craigslist for $25 for a 80+ gallon tank and a 30 gallon tank. The catch is that the owner was selling them due to a fire destroying his home which, I assume, the tanks were in. Would the tanks still be structurally sound or would the glass have a high chance of bursting due to being in the heat of a burning home? What kind of damage can I expect and is it worth the risk? Thanks.

I think it'd be impossible to tell unless you knew specifically what type of heat the tanks were directly exposed to. For all we know the whole house burned down but his fishroom was relatively safe in the basement. Or, you know, the opposite.

you could always reseal them

As an aside, am I the only person who finds this post funny given the OPs user name?

you could always reseal them

Do you think I would have to take the tanks apart and completely put them back together again or could I get away with just stripping the silicon from the inside and reseal the inside without bothering with the structural aspect?

not sure you should contact them and ask how close to the fire the tanks were.

and go from there. If they were not in the same room I would go for it..clean them up and test them out side for a few weeks full.
