Fire damage to tank?

Hilarious post/User name combo. ;)

Anyway, I don't see any danger here. Looking at the pics the HOB filter/tubing/plastic etc etc would have liquified at or below 400F. They would have deformed at much lower temps which they obviosly didn't do. I think the tanks are fine.. Buy em, try to clean em up or use them for sumps or something. Glass will be totally fine and almost certainly so will the silicone.

On the flip side, if you hear/see that any portion was charred or started to melt just walk away. Free still wouldn't be worth the cleanup of a blowout and dead fish.

i wouldn't risk it. surely silicone would have been damaged by that heat.

Hello; Silicone can be very heat tolerant. I have silicone baking containers and have used silicone tubes mounted directly to a truck exaust manifold in the past.

My R/C Boat uses a silicone tube to connect the manifold to the exhaust pipe. ... very very heat tolerant!

dont go near it... so much work ahead of you... the chemicals from the fire in there you would need to clean the crap outa em. I would reseal silicone and who knows if there is a small crack or anything from some heat... plus the will STINK. I think its a headache and a waste of money ot buy them.

I Have melted my top plastic using just a heat lamp... the plastic on that tank looks fine. If that didnt melt, it wasnt exposed to much heat at all...

Dude... its $25 bux... for 2 tanks. I see no reason, at ALL, that you wouldnt go get these tanks. Heck, even if they wont hold water, sell em as a reptile tank.

The wood trim on the larger tank barely looks anything past dirty. No black residue or buildup.

These tanks had nothing more than light smoke damage!!!!!!!

BUY THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anybody who tells you not to doesnt know what they are talking about. I have remodeled houses with "smoke" damage.... you can still see through those tanks, ur good! Clean em, and you got a good deal!
