I have always really liked this fish but have never had any luck, I have owned 3 small ones and they all seem happy healthy eating and water quality is perfect and then they just curl and die? I think I am ready to try again but I have no substrate ATM if I give him a good hiding place is it still a problem?

3 at once? They were going to kill each other either way

No i had 3, 1 after the other so only ever 1 at a time, sorry didn't word it very well and the tank is a 95g but I am moving house soon so by the time I get the "eel" it will likely have a nice 200-300g :)

A soft substrate to nose around in is more natural. We need more details, tank size, tank mates, feed type and schedule and length of time before dying.

Yea I know, I will be putting sand in when I get time after iv moved, just wondered if it would be ok short term with a good hiding place (pipe or something)

Tank size ^^^

Tank mates are an endli bichir, giraffe catfish, small TSN, pleco and a tiger dat, only thing I am a bit worried about is the bichir and I know your going to say about the TSN but if he outgrows anything enough for it to be food then I already have a good home reserved for him in a lfs display tank.

Food is a mixture of hikari and frozen, with the occasional live but no live fish, but I can Taylor a specific diet to this fish if needed?

The length of time ranged from a week to almost a month and like I said everything seemed perfect, active, bright, feeding well then acting weird ( usually in the morning ) by lunch time dead... I couldn't find any reasons for this happening

What's the footprint? Lot of bottom dwellers. How big are the eels when you've got them? Mine ate blood worms when small then moved up as he grew.

It's 4' long, about 18" wide but its a bow front and I think it's almost 2' in the centre and 20 high.

All of the eels was between 5-7" and yea I used to feed them live river shrimp, blood worm and krill
