Fire eel advice

I've lost a few spiney. The fire eel I have now is the first I've ever had but IME if they have somewhere to escape from like a cave only they can get into seems to help alot. Hope this helps

Thanks for all of the replies, I will try all of this and hopefully it will work out this time.. I think the internal parasites theory seems the most likely is the internal parasites, especially because everything else was perfect, and I am not looking for a low maintenance fish, I spend a lot of time on feeding and maintenance so I can definitely cope with its needs, I hope 1 comes up soon so I can try again
