sucks to be him but it could of been avoided... not saying what the fireguys did was right or wrong just saying it was 100% avoidable

if you think that was bad...

now these firefighter stories are pretty bad...
most firefighters are good but then theres these guys...

there was a firefighter...he lite barns on fire so he could afford to buy his kids ipods for christmas...

a few firefighters were finishing up putting out a fire. there were a few rabbits in cages that were burning, they were screaming and dieing... they just sat there and laughed.

there are idiots all over

and they're everywhere

most firefighters are good but then theres these guys...

Obviously this should have never happened; the South Fulton Fire Department and other FD should have had contingences plans exactly for situations like this if someone did not paid the “protection fee”. Not showing up is one thing, but showing up to put out the fire of the neighbors and watching the guys house burn down is not only wrong but inhuman when you have the tools and equipment to put out the fire. The city should reprimand the Chief for not having a policy for situations like this and should retrain all the firefighters. This is an example of union politics gone mad.

Comparing this to not paying your electric bill or car insurance is ridiculous. This person HOUSE and possessions are not easily replaced unlike paying electric bill and service is restored the same or next day and your possessions are still intact. This was a persons HOME, not something you can easily replace. This is not something “oh, he didn’t pay his bill and deserved it”. Comparing this to situations like that just shows how F’ed up we are becoming as a country. This was a person home that burned down as the so-called firefighters WATCHED, HOSES INHAND.

Exactly what happened is why this is so wrong and the SFFD put a lot more people in danger. The fire started in the person house who did not pay the “protection fee” Is this Russia? The fire department was called and did not respond to this guys call for HELP. They only responded to the neighbors call for help who did paid the fee when AFTER THE FIRE SPREADED OVER TO HIS PROPERTY. THE FIRE SPREADED. What if that house also did not pay the “protection fee” and so on? What then? What if as they were fighting the fire for the neighbor who had paid the fee and the fire spreaded over to another house who did not pay the fee? Let that burn also?

This is what is so wrong with this. They let the fire purposely spread to endanger others just because a “fee” was not paid. This America, if you need help, we will help no matter what.

I ahven't read most of this thread, so if someone else has covered it, I apologize.

He chose not to take an optional service. He is responsible for his house burning, not the firemen, not anyone but him. He chose not to pay. None of the local tax dollars have ever gone into the firehouse or the local fire station. They provide a RURAL service for a modest $75/year. He chose to live there and he chose not to pay.

Should insurance agencies pay for an accident you caused if you don't have insurance? Ultimately, this boils down to the man being responsible for his actions, and the ramifications of not doing so. I feel bad for him, but it's his own fault.

People keep saying, "what if someone was in there?" NO ONE WAS IN THERE SO IT IS B.S. SPECULATION. what if it rained donuts yesterday, oh wait it didn't so its pointless to talk about things that didn't happen. Maybe they responded to make sure no one was hurt, not to stop the blaze ever think of that. They where there to save life not property. If his stuff mattered he would have payed the 75. Yeah it stinks but I know quite a few free loaders so I have no respect for some one who thrives on entitelment. He had no right to their services. Simple as that.

Refer to post #158. Also, if no tax dollars went into the fire protection program, they must be REALLY good at making fire trucks out of mud...

My thoughts exactly, it's sickening. I can't believe folks here feel like this guy got what he deserved. And it's not about sympathy. If you guys knew me personally you'd know I'm the most apathetic person on the planet. But this crap just isn't right, at least not in America. I'd expect this from some other dirtbag third world country. I can only imagine what other develop nations must think of us now.

Did they know that no one was in there? They know that now, because no one is dead. But did they KNOW that? Their job isn't to make judgement calls like that. Their job is to put out fires.

NOOOO, you got it wrong. He called and they refused to come out because he didn't pay. They ONLY came out when a neighbor called, concerned about his property. Thie neighbor paid his fee so they came out to keep his property safe. Nobody died, but someone easily could HAVE died.
