Wow i thought it was bad enough with your health system over there but to have to pay some one to put out a fire.......thats not cool.
We might have to pay for a health system but its better than urs. ;)

And paying for FF, isnt normal but that is the way it is at this place. They have this in place to pay for the gear, engines and other stuff. People dont realise who much that costs. An engine can cost over 500k full equiped. Well over. Ladder truck? 1 mil. Even an ambo cost 100k plus. This place has this system in place for what ever reason. I dunno why, i dont like it but thats the way it is there. If you dont pay ur electric bill, do you still get electric?

Talk about lousy decision making. He risked his home over $75 and lost. Noone to blame but himself. He knew the rules.

^exactly

THe home owners own words

I hadn't paid my $75 and that's what they want, $75, and they don't care how much it burned down," Gene Cranick told WPSD, an NBC affiliate in Kentucky. "I thought they'd come out and put it out, even if you hadn't paid your $75, but I was wrong."

he wouldn't pay a $75 dollar fee. What makes you think he is going to pay what the actual cost of putting the fire out.

He knew what he was doing when he decided to NOT pay the fee.

If by some chance this should have been covered by his taxes he can easily sue. every other person does.

Why do you think it say
Caution hot liquid may cause burns. on the out side of a coffee.

Because MC Donald violated FDA rules for human consumable hot liquids in their training manual to save money. The hotter the coffee the longer it stays fresh.

Fire here is also covered with taxes as well and most people complain about. If there was a fee based system here no one would pay it. Then they would sue like crazy if the fire department failed to show up. The fire department failed to show because there wasn't one. BTW this is how fire departments were run prior to the state taking them over. You paid your fire insurance or you paid a big fat fee.

I still think that they should have put it out then charged him for the total cost of the call. Lesson learned for the home owner and no PR nightmare for the department.

I can see both sides of the story but the guy is a freeloader and wants everything for free. In my business it drives me crazy when people come in and expect us to give them everything free....not going to happen. I guess he also didn't carry fire insurance on his home and is left with nothing. Does he expect some insurance company to come in and pay for his house? Well, needless to say, even if the firefighters would have put out the fire, the house would have still been uninhabitable because of the damage done already. Let's hope he did have fire insurance.

Even though the guy didn't pay the fee they shouldn't have let his house burn down.

If you are leaving a building and the person ahead of you doesn't hold the door open and gets hit by a car you should have a moral responsibility to at least call for help and do what you can even though they did nothing for you. Apparently this only applies to citizens and not the town though. If he was in the house would they have let him die?

And seriously, paying for public services?

Yes they should have. THere is a fee for a reason. SO they can continue to provide service. You dont pay for service you dont get service. You dont pay for your electric, u dont get ur electric. Dont pay your water, dont get your water. Dont pay to get ur trash removed, your trash stays at your house. That's how it works. Thats life. You pay to get stuff.

And you do know most places charge you for an ambo ride right? It cost money to do that stuff and most places dont have a fire tax to pay for fire services. The fire budget either relys on carnivals and stuff, or tax payers money. This perticular area relys on a fee.

I dont care who's responsible for the area, if its not in ones jurisdiction then whater jurisdiction they are in should have been sent out for FREE. This is supposed to be a public service and no one should have to pay a fee for this, cops or anything else....

What if a baby or baby and mom or dog and baby or whatever was in there..... they just ignore that over $75. Thats the most stupidest thing I ve ever heard and I think its rediculous and a pathetic way to make extra money. If they are not in their jurisdiction... then they should send someone who is.... for no fee.. .and if there is no one.... then they need to put someone out there.

It doesnt matter if they were right or not.... its still wrong.
:iagree:
