Ok, I made 2 batches of gel food last night. Stuck to the same recipe as before except I added 1 tablespoon of chlorella and 1 tablespoon of spirullina. Gonna feed the tank tonight! Will keep y'all posted!

On a side note, I have a lot of fish in my 600g and I thought everyone was enjoying the gel food.... well, it turns out that one of my 20 dats - 13" oddball IT - wasn't eating it. I pulled him out and stuck him in a 40 breeder where he gorged himself on tilapia. Just wanted to add that so y'all watch your fish carefully and make sure everyone is eating okay.

Wow, it is wonderful to see this thread alive and thriving. Happy New year everyone. Sorry for my absence, I have an 11 month old son now, teaching him the ways of rays! -FM
 
About 1/4 teaspoon of each chlorella and spirullina seems to have the best results. Too much and I think the powders inhibit the binding of the gel food. Hope this helps!

made my first batch tonight, it was an instant hit. Even my picky orb mowed down a few pieces.
 
First post and I am a new member! I will be getting a few Motoros in the next few months and I can't believe the incredible and innovative information on these forums. I have been lurking a few months on this forum in researching freshwater stingrays to absorb as much information as possible and stumbled upon this thread.

I know this thread has been inactive for a bit but I think I have some additional input. We might not have to complicate things too much and I think some of the original ideas of this thread are being lost and can be possibly improved.

Original thoughts were to cut the food-jello into thumbnail sizes for easy consumption and consistent feeding. In my opinion this all comes back to the frozen food that you can buy for your fish in the freezers at the local fish store. So here are some additional options for storage....

Reuse those frozen fish food plastic containers that have those convenient sized partitions. Drop the food-gelatin into the squares and you are done. Many of us might have a few of these containers laying around still or still buy them frequently.

Another option is to find an alternative medium similar to those options that would provide the smaller and easier dispensing ability that I mentioned above which provides the need to not cut the gelatin every time when making a batch.

These are all just ideas, let me know what you think!
 
Just finished my first batch. Came out pretty good, texture wise (I didn't taste it). Unfortunately mixed results so far. Catfish ate it, Severums pecking at it. Rays topped it and mouthed it but spit it. I will keep trying it. No reason all fish shouldn't eat it really.

If I had to do it again would have gon with more fish as that is what my fish eat most. I love this idea though.
