Criticism is welcome, makes me rethink things. The goal is a red bellied firemouth... <pic removed>
Now remove all the blue and replace it with white. The dark bands would be a faint yellow, the eyes would be red, and all the red coloration in the fins and body would remain. This would be a gorgeous, never seen, show stopping fish! This is the true goal!
A worthwhile goal... but... Thorichthys generally have a colored belly and the albino mixteco does not (or at least mine didn't). If you do get an albino firemouth, why do you think the red will be retained? It's worth the attempt, and breeding is, no doubt, an enjoyable pursuit for you, but what, if anything, leads you to think the outcome is possible? Again, no criticism, just curiosity on my part.

Btw, you willing to sell any of those gorgeous firemouth?

I breed so many FM's that I usually give the fry away at 1" because overnite shipping is so high! I have a LFS that can ship some out though.

As far as my thinking goes I believe in theory that if I can isolate the albino gene and cross with the reddest FM I have the color pattern will mimick the albino red tiger oscar. Those fish have deep red against there white body.
I also think that once I create such a fish I can license it to the Florida Fish Farm Industry for more production of the fish. Thinking the way Jeff did with the electric blue JD. I may go thru him also.

This is a serious quest. As I have said before they have been on ebay and other sites but are not Tmeeki. They are T.Mex. To date I can find no one with albino T.meeki. i would definitely buy them if anyone had them and then spend the next 3 years working on a fixed strain for sale. Breeding like this takes years because of the growth time to sexually maturity between generations. The guy in Hawaii that bred the almost all orange Koi angels took 12 years to get there.

I have no idea if I will ever get an albino, hence my comment about a Tawain forced genetic version of the fish. I have considered a hybris cross to the T.mex but am not sure if that would be a waste or not? That is why I tried to talk to jeff. I will discuss this further with him and will contact Rusty.

i say skip the hybrid cross if they did go over we may be looking at a red devil midas situation where you really have to shop around to get a true fm or mixetico i wish you all the best in your attempt to breed a true albino it would be a good looking fish i dont know if it will top the firemouths you currently have but if it did man what a fish
