feeders are fine just qt them...everyone hates feeders, but they are fine...mostly everyone just jumps on the anti-feeder bandwagon without knowing much about the potental feeders actually have...

just think about it...every pred in the world will eat a smaller fish if given the chance...in the wild they eat fish as a part of their diet...they eat more insects, but fish is a part...alot of people said "ya thats in the wild, but in a tank it is a no no"...in the end aren't we as keepers tring to replicate there habitat?...

A lot of people tend to shy away from feeders for two reasons.

1 - They're a lot more expensive
2 - Feeders usually aren't quarantined the way other fish are. They have hundreds of them jam packed into a tiny aquarium where sickness can spread very quickly.

#2 great reason.

however variety in food is good for all nutritional values.

When did arowanas start eating thiaminase filled goldfish in the wild? To my recollection, feeder goldfish dont even come from the same place as arowanas? If feeders were actually something not filled with thiaminase, im pretty sure a big majority would be feeding it. Not everyone just "jumps on the bandwagon".

lol

I'll have to ask the owner of the LFS where he gets his feeders from. He's a pretty hardcore guy and very into treating animals properly. I'm fairly certain his feeders are coming from a local source so may be "clean".

I'm likewise hesitant to start trapping minnows on my own as I's hate to introduce something to the tank.

There are so many other food sources for you to choose from, Get it on pellets as a main staple and feed it other stuff intermittently. Feeders and frogs in my opinion are more hassle than they're worth.

I'm still waiting for him to have a live meal. Bugger gobbles up all the pellets I put in for the other fish and ignores what swimming right past his nose.

I did get some more work done on his bigger home. Hopefully by the end of June I'll have it up and cycling.

since when did feeder automaticly meen goldfish?... outside of your world other fish are feeders...not all feeders are actually filled with thiaminase...to my recollection minnows and other small fish witch become feeders when you feed them to anything are from the same place as arowanas...yes everyone does jump on the bandwagon against feeders cause everyone including you think of goldfish as being the only feeder fish out there...i feed wc sunfish, perch, bullheads, crappie minnow/fatheads, shinners and suckers...all of them are feeder fish and not thiaminase rich...

so before you come off like you know all and i don't know what i am talking about think twice...as the world is much larger then what you see...

just an example...a 18" wolffish is a feeder fish for monster pbass in the wild....
