First Arowana...Any Advice?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They grow noticeable every time you feed them practically. Be ready. It will surprise you.

they're pigs. i have mine housed with 2 oscars, a florida gar, a senegal and a tire track eel. he's the greediest of all and gets the most food. he's not the type of fish that will attack any other fish. he's just quick and reacts to food hitting the water surface. they grow fast, too.

like everyone has mentioned, keep the lids tight and secured...you will be surprise how powerful these guys are and can jump and knock some "secure" lids/covers. always know where he is when you're cleaning the tank as well....sometime they get spooked and or jump for freedom while you are cleaning the tank not knowing that you have the lid half opened.

Awesome...thanks for the "what not to dos" He is in a 55 Gallon at the moment. He will be moved up to a 180 in a few months...then I'll be looking to sell him in the Atlanta area. I plan on moving to the other side of the country in a year and a half or so...at which point I think it will be wiser to find him a new home locally than to try and move him cross country.

start off with the sidces and back covered.
silver are more skittish imo.

then if you wanna view fromall sides, gradually take off as it gets bigger.

big tank for silvers

Well Here is my lil buddy Arrow. He doesn't seem to want to eat red wiggler worms or cichlid bars...I guess crickets come next to get him to eat something besides the guppies and swordtails in the tank with him. Granted that is what they are there for.

And here is how the tank is set-up...I gave hiding places to the loaches and plecos in the left of the tank...are they too tall or do they need to go?
