nice home he has..

Thanks. I have been piecing it together for a while now. I found those cinder blocks on the left in a local creek. Asked around at the university...and apparently they were from a mill build in about the 1870s.

And...what would be the best method for feeding worms to the Aro...considering they sink? and how many should I try to feed him at a time. That is if I can get him to eat them in the first place.

remove the feeders lest he gets used to live food - you gonna have lots of hearbreaking trying to get him of feeders. Go aro floating sticks while he is young (advantage is that they float). And can try raw shrimp pieces without shell

good luck

if we're talkin bout earthworms:

1. throw the worm in the water right in front of the aro

2. with my silver i actually dangle the worm in the water n my aro grabs it

if we're talkin bout bloodworms:

1. worm cone

urs is a big aro so im assumin ur talkin bout earthworms/nightcrawlers

My one and only important advice is to make sure the tank is covered securely with a glass cover. Cause I lost mine when it jumped out of the tank when I wasnt home... :(

Awesome...thanks for the "what not to dos" He is in a 55 Gallon at the moment. He will be moved up to a 180 in a few months...then I'll be looking to sell him in the Atlanta area. I plan on moving to the other side of the country in a year and a half or so...at which point I think it will be wiser to find him a new home locally than to try and move him cross country.

**make sure it doesn't get drop eye, as it is fairly common among larger arowanas.
**be sure not to feed minnows to it, as they carry black-spots disease and once it gets it, you can't get rid of it...it may take years for it to disappear by itself.
the barbels don't grow back so be careful with them. silver arowans that don't have them look incomplete.
Make sure you get a much larger tank soon. your fish can get holes-in-the-head disease, gill curl, and even tail/back curl if you don't have enough space for it.
I don't recommend you putting any other fish with your silver as your tank is small. and over crowding can lead to more diseases and ammonia burns - to fin rot.
get a powerful filter when you get the money. XP5 is awesome!
feed it frozen foods: shrimp(take tail off, as the sharp points can penetrate the fish's stomach),tilapia, smelt, silversides, krill, and at times - beef heart.

Though you have posted many things, only about half are true.

-There is nothing that can be done to prevent Drop eye.
-Barbels do growback, often though they are deformed.
-Yet to see an arowana with HITH disease, I guess it could happen though I doubt the cause would be to little space.
-There is no such filter as an XP5. The largest in the rena XP line is the XP4. Unless you were possibly referring to Fluval's FX5?

I definitely agree. you need a large tank and a secure lid. Arows definitely need the large amount of space! stay away from feeder fishes, better to train them to eat pellets.
