That's the problem with using a bucket, can't tell if they laid eggs or not. Even the Thai breeders sometimes use clear containers:

Also, you have to realize that perhaps the reason why Thai breeders are so successful in breeding in such tight quarters is because they have access to numerous bettas that are already in breeding shape. If you think about, it's easier to breed bettas when you can just pick and choose the males and females that already look like they're ready to breed... even if their breeding container is just a small bowl.

The breeding pair is chosen for their health and vitality, and bettas who are in questionable health are rejected. One of the first things Asian breeders look for in selecting their pair is a bubblenest in the jar of the male, and bright colors in the female.

Also, I suggest not to try and breed a veiltail x hmpk. All the offspring will be long tails and worth significantly less. I doubt you'd even get deltas with that crossing. Even if you plan on doing an F2 generation with the offspring, you'd get some plakats back, but there's no guaranteeing that they'd be halfmoons.
