First black arow ive seen with DE

I'm going to add my theory for drop eye. I think it is caused by the lighting. Since they are top dwellers, having the light on for too long can be hurtful to their eyes. They start to look down as a result - just imagine staring at the sun for long hours. They adapt to their surroundings due to necessity and develop DE.

Now this is just my theory. Could be other reasons as well. Just wanted to add my 2 cents.

your lighting is stronger than the sun in a rainforest after the rains and the floodwaters rise to the tops of the leaf canopy, so theres no shade?

Badreverend, let me break this down for you since you seem so knowledgeable about it that you have to break out your sarcasm.

Let me use the Black Aros native habitat as an example. This year the Rio Negro received its most abundant rainfall, in-fact record breaking, which resulted in a flood of just 29 inches.

Now, in regards to Brazil's rain forest canopy

Code:
The canopy can reach more than 45 meters (150 feet) in height and consists of many different tree species living close together. A few trees, known as emergent, break through the canopy, often attaining height of 60 meters (200 feet) with straight, unbranched trunks up to 40-50 meters (130-165 feet) in height.

Now 29" is hardly 150 ft wouldn't you say? Heck I'll even take it down to 5 ft for you, still nearly 3 ft short wouldn't you say?

Now since I have clearly established for you that it does NOT flood above the canopy. Let me tell you what my actual research based on facts and sources can conclude.

Code:
The canopy's leaves are very dense and filter out about 80% of the sunlight.

So Yes, I would say the average arowana receives more light in our aquarium than in the wild.

Talk some more.

iv heard bro Koji same something about lighting plays a role in the fish's swimming position that might affect DE too just my opinion! dont flame me

So, then why are not both eyes affected in most cases? Plus this argument really don't work for asians or jars. Not to mention this would also mean that 95% or more of silver aros are in tanks with lights that are too bright?

Its just my theory as a contributing factor. I personally believe it is head trauma as I stated pretty early in this thread.

Take the theory at face value. 2 cents isn't worth much ;)

Why did you put "contributing" in bold type? Is it you feel I missed this somehow? Maybe realize that you failed to include it in your previous statement before treating others like they are stupid.

If your going to introduce a "theory" at least back it up if someone contradicts it.

I agree- I did have more to say, but I try to limit myself to one deleted post and one infraction per thread- and I already hit my quota for this one

Yes, I do feel that you missed the fact that its a contributing factor. Often times, if not always, many of environmental factors play into an issue. How about we talk about genetics? I will just give you an example to simplify it for you. Why is it that people who are near-sided aren't equally distributed in both eyes? Is it cause I look more intensely or focus more with one eye? No, it is genetic predisposition. If you are predisposed, any additional factor (i.e. reading too closely, etc) can play into worsening the symptoms. Which is why, arowanas might not always get DE in both eyes or to the same degree. As for the Asians and the Jars, do they not come from a common evolutionary ancestor?

Bderick, before you get onto your all high and mighty chair, please remember that we are here in the name of a common interest. I will not sit idly and stand ridicule from an individual who can not even state their facts in an argument correctly. If what he stated had any roots in facts than I would of responded, like I do with everyone else; politely and truthfully. This isn't my first post here and we have been indirectly acquainted on several different occasions. When have I ever made "people feel stupid"? Here I am offering a honest to god theory and he is flinging his crap ass information.

I am offering my theory that could prove useful in possibly eliminating a variable in DE - I would to see either of you do as much.

I don't know if you guys are buddies or what, but you can stop holding hands now. Oh and badreverend, please feel free to finish this via PMs. No infractions or anything. Plus, why the fear getting an infraction? All I've I have done is provided evidence to the contrary, if you can prove otherwise - I don't see a problem. Don't take it personally. The option is completely open to you, or you can just cry like you just did by telling me how you would of done things ;)
