First cars

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My first car is still a 93' Dodge Intrepid. Not the best looking car, but its fast for its age and what type of car it is, and cheap as it gets to fix. Fishy Idk what you have for a budget, but if you can i'd definitely try for something thats good on gas and is easy on the wallet to have fixed, so it sounds like you're on the right track

Right now we're looking around $5k which regardless will get me atleast a decent mode of transportation. I told my dad(making guardian) and he said we'd work on it, but I'm not picky with it,as long as it gets me from point A to point B and has enough trunk space for my skate gear and poles :D

right on. when you get it treat her well... you have no idea how much it sucks to make payments or repairs!

Is the $5K for just the car or car+insurance? Insurance was only $64/semi-annually when I started driving. My son was surprised by a $3k/yr policy for teen drivers.

First car was a 96 mustang v6 with 200k miles on it, only paid $1,500 for that thing. I dont have any pictures but here are my last two rigs and my project truck..

$5k is just for the car. My deal with my dad was I have to pay part of the car payment(if I have one) part of insurance and my gas unless I'm doing an errand for my parents. If I start slipping in school I have to pay more.

I got my drivers license in 1974 gas was 44 cents a gallon and my fist car was a 1972 opel manta. We also had odd and even gas days depending on what the last number on the plate was. That was during the gas shortage. Anybody remember that?

Hello; I recall the odd /even gas days well. I had a 1970 Opel Rally Cadet at that time. lots of days when stations did not have gas to sell.

My first car in 1965 was a 1957 Chevy with a straight six and a three speed manual on the column. Gas was around 25 cents a gallon for a time.

And that's just until I'm out of highschool, once I go off to college everything is on me, which is understandable and I'm gonna take these 2 years until college to build up my savings account and get a decent paying job

Yes, you would pass by a station and they would have the RED flag out. Then you would wait on line for gas if you found a station with a GREEN flag out. I also remember no topping off you had to have less the half a tank, I don't remember any one actually checking. I would "fill'er up" for $5.00.

I want a 55, 56, or 57 Chevy before I croak, hopefully a 55 :)
