so after work I'm picking up my first datnoid, a gold dat. it's about the size of a nickel. it'll be in a 55g by itself. any tips or suggestions would be welcome! I've read a bunch on them but like to hear some more first hand experience.

I was about to ask this question. So tou think its better to just try with the frozen foods for now and not worry about pellets ? You think theres enough nutrients in BW and BS to make a difference? He wont even touch tilapia or shrimpFatten it up and worry about pellet training later. They will take tiny pieces of market shrimps and recommended temp should be 81-83.
I added a few corys from my 240 so I could move the bichirs into it. also added a curviceps and think I might get a female so if they breed the Dat will have food! Not sure if this was coincidence or it actually helped but after i added a bunch of cheap petco fish the dat stopped hiding and increased it appetite.
only one I've seen in years at any lfs. I actually bought 2 but one died the first night. no signs of aggression.Just curious as to what prompted you to get a dat so small,as slowly as they grow?
Unh hunh....that was partly why I asked.Although there is no reason why they should as long as tank conditions are optimal some baby fish tend to be a bit delicate and die after a few days after coming home.It is what has caused me to shy away from very young wild caught fish.only one I've seen in years at any lfs.
