Sad to hear the bad news rob. Im glad to see you got right back on the horse. I stumbled upon a black aro and am a fanatic now.
Congrats on your new aro! Please do not try to force the aro to eat pellets yet. He is still very small and weak at this point. Continues to offer blood worms and black worm until he's about at least 6-7in before attempting to wean on pellets. I would give him some quarantine feeder guppies, small crickets, and maybe small pieces of frozen shrimp. Good luck on the second one!
That sounds like good advice to me, will probably hold off on 'forcing' pellets til at least January. Thanks!
Don't believe anyone told you to force it on pellets. But good luck breaking it off live foods once you do decide to feed it pellets.
So, how is he doing now? I've killed baby aros with frozen brine shrimp, Freeze dried krill, and frozen blood worms. Baby crickets seem to be a good food source for 2-4 inch aros. You can feed them a variety of things before you feed them to the aro to vary the diet.
I like your new arowana! Sorry about your first one. If it were mines I would train him on pellets ASAP. Once they get big I haven't had much luck training them on pellets... Even the one I have now which has been eating pellets since I bought him as a baby (I only buy them if they eat pellets/flakes in the store already), can be much more finicky when eating his pellets for a couple days after giving him a treat (frozen foods like Hikari jumbo krill). Needless to say he doesnt get his treat much anymore, if at all. Wait a couple of weeks or a month to make sure he'll be okay then train.
