a family friend who had a 6ft tank with real plants, angel fish, corys, etc in. a huge community tank that got me hooked. then he made me my own tank one xmas that he and my parents sneaked over while i was asleep so i had it fully setup and stocked (he was a local breeder) on xmas day.
i didnt care about all my other presents once i saw that. that tank sealed the deal. i was about 5 or 6 then and im 26 now.

I tried to keep small tropical fish many years ago in 15g high, mostly tetras and swordtails. I tried twice, all the fish died and I gave the tank away. Almost 20 years later, my brother, a very good fish keeper gave me a 30g tank and stand for a house warming gift. Remembering my previous failures, I studied and studied some more, learned about the biologic cycle and all the reasons I failed. Now I'm an addict with three tanks and will probably get a fourth within a year. I can't imagine not having fish today!
