First filter

So everything was going fine, filter seemed to be doing its job, fish were happy, owner content.

Anyhoop I was up early one night, who knows why, and I says to myself "struth that filters noisy" turn on the light and water is pissing out of the middle of the tank.

Beuty Newk, 4am half asleep and my fav tank is threatening to explode.

Plan A: Turn off power, place a bucket under spillage and have a coffee and smoke and work out plan B.

Plan A...Fail, only bucket to high to fit under...place on an angle... Fail bucket keeps righting itself when water enters.

Plan A.1: Place saucepan under tank, near bucket have coffee whilst running in and out emptying the pan and working on plan B.

So after running around in circles, start draining tank and removing filter and emptying pan and catching fish and adding power to the sump...I got all (23? I couldn't find one) and most of the water out by 7am. The big pleco and silver dollars went back to their previous lodgings (not happy Jan) the couple of feather tails also went back from wence they came and the 17 assorted africans got dropped into the sump.

Fortunatly they are all juveniles otherwise there would have been some serious overcrowding. Anyhoopaling...I went to work at 8am, knocked off at 9.30am (yes a pet cool boss) and went to the lfs to suss out my options.

Ended up with a 5*2*2 a foot more than before (priced at $1100 with cabinet) got the old one out of the way new one in, drunk some beer, pleco and Africans back in by 9pm and looked OK. A yellow fella died last night but I think the rest will survive.

I'll add some photos next.

Mandatory essentails...Power cords hovering around water, 20 mtr extension to cover 5 foot of carpet, beer and the hired help.

"Tank crack in middle or what?"

Ahhh well in my brillance I resiliconed the tank in dec 08. It appears the seal came apart in the middle at the bottom. It needed a brace added i guess.

I hate tank leaks! They got me out of the hobby a few years ago, and about 6 months ago I didn't even have a tank O.o

Good to see it worked out, the new tank looks much better! Why don't you have it filled to the top?

The only thing I would suggest is to get rid of the driftwood because driftwood softens water and africans come from very hard, alkaline water while driftwood will cause very soft acidic water.
