It might not be needed. But you never know.. I would be worried about the effects of time. Wood can eventually start to bow when subjected to massive weight like that for years and years.

I hope this helps.

As long as one joist it right under the tank. (assuming that the joists run parralle with the tank.) you only need support under One joist but you will need two supports both about 1-2' from each end of the tank.

If the joists run perpendicular to your tank still add two supports but again make sure the are placed between 1-2' on the inside of the tank. And you'll be fine. I've done 4 tanks this way. 2-125s, 1-220, 54 corner. And I live in an old house (it's at least 60 years old.)

Its not that the worry would be that the thing goes through the floor, though that would certainly blow chucks too. But if the floor started bowing over the years, even a little bit, that would be like putting the tank on an uneven surface in the first place. People wonder why a tank just spontaneously will leak, I think this is one cause.

Just wanted to chime in and say everything your doing looks amazing man! super clean/professional and high quality :headbang2 GL and I cant wait to see some pic's of the finished product!

My first monster set up was finished 2 weeks ago but I did not get a chance to post photos. Here they are... Now the fun part, shopping for stock.

My sump was flipped.

This sump worked out great. I am probably breaking my arm here but Damn I did a great job on this sump design and the automatic water changing system (inspired by arofantics.com, and our very own monster fish keeper's here at MFK that gave me ideas to work on a project such as this).
Works just as I planned it.

This is my oscar of 10 years. I found a good home for him and I am ready to shop for fish soon. Monsters coming soon.

Project Complete. Only if blacks are available now. I know I have to wait til early spring for a fresh community of blacks. I am saving for 5 blacks and 1 silver.
:headbang2I talked her into letting buy this over the weekend. I promised her that this would be the last tank that I would buy. So I guess I have to build the next one :hitting:

Dimensions are 9'x2'.

This time it is going tobe much easier the second time around.

big tank = sump Heaters and any buffing materials in sump lots of large water changes well thought-out stocking lots of reading
these are the basics of monster fishkeeping.

Very well done bro! Im stoked for ya. And you already got a bigger tank!? LOL awesome.

the way I stated to add the floor jacks will not casue any bowing over time at all if that's what you're trying to imply.

Oh, I did not add detailed photo's atm but I am supporting the floor with a floor jack post and afew extra floor joists.

The sump's over flow and drip system was not in the photo but you get the idea(overflow is hidden behind the micron filter sock and drip tube is on the right side of the sump.
