First paludarium build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Updates on the build...finally! I think I have everything basically covered and colored the way I want it. Used the krylon fusion after a couple coats of mortar. Still a bit unhappy with the tree stump(came out way more glossy than I wanted it). Now just trying to decide if I should seal everything with a drylok or something. But here's a couple pics of where I'm at so far. Sorry for the mess. Still will have lots of clean up!uploadfromtaptalk1409826893194.jpguploadfromtaptalk1409826905068.jpguploadfromtaptalk1409826934530.jpguploadfromtaptalk1409826974676.jpg

Nice. Why not add peat moss to the tree trunk? It would make it stand out and take away the shine you don't want.

Thanks...was thinking about adding some kind of moss to the trunk but wasn't sure how to get it to stick? Also thinking of just leaving it alone and seeing what might naturally grow on it. Plan on having the tank heavily planted(both aquatic and terrestrial) with mosses and ferns and a bunch of pothos and such.

Looks good so far. Any ideas on the fish stock yet?

Thanks! Still going tossing around ideas for stocking. For once in my hobby the land portion is somewhat more important to me. Originally was trying to figure out a creature that would utilize both the land and water but thats proving to be quite difficult. Now I'm thinking either fire-bellied toads, a species of terrestrial salamanders, some anoles, a crested gecko, or a croc skink. For the water.. Probably going to decide that upon what species are indigenous to the area where the land creature is from.

Oh...also thought about mudskippers, but that definitely going in a different direction. But they're so neat and I've seen a few awesome setups with them!

Apologies for the continues posts but I'm getting fed up with the tree stump! Should I just scrap it and maybe use it for another project?uploadfromtaptalk1409881089019.jpg

Peat moss... Peat moss. Use epoxy, ge I silicone n spread it out with something and hand toss the peat moss over it in thick layers so all the silicone is used.
Use google for diy stuff n youll run across other peat moss builds.

Thanks for the ideas. Still think I may ditch the tree. Kinda like the water being more open and the stump took up a good amount of space. Probably just going to add some driftwood and branches instead. May have jumped the gun but I threw some water in this morning to test the waterfall one more time before I start scaping the tank.
