Here you go, was looking at DIY Vivarium and I ran into this, very good information.
I've been scratching my head for the longest time on pulling the trigger on a build...

Well...realized after reading and checking out various other paludarium and vivariums builds that I may have left out a somewhat important detail. Places to plant terrestrial plants! Didn't think about the minimal amount of substrate I'll be covering the surface with not being substantial enough for most plants. Ughhh...gotta start planning better!!! Thinking about just drilling some holes into the concrete and foam now for this purpose.

Oh...also thought about mudskippers, but that definitely going in a different direction. But they're so neat and I've seen a few awesome setups with them!

Yea mudskippers would definitely be nice, but would probably need a dedicated tank. I'd love to have a tank for them one day. I agree with you that it looks a bit neater without the tree trunk, maybe if u incorporated a tree with roots within the main structure it would've worked better. It does seem that the tank has more visibility without it

So I think I've decided on some anoles as my land inhabitants(still kind of worried about how darn quick they are but oh well!). Then for the water portion I'm thinking just a few species of schooling tetras. Unless....anyone have an idea for a small species(besides guppies, mollies, and swords) that would be fun and breedable?(yup...made that word up!)

Why not hollow out the foam down about 4 inches put mortar in the hollowed out section and fill that up with substrate the plant your terrarium plants there? As for fish go for tetras and a small group of killies so you can breed those for fun there live bearers but still cool looking

Thanks for the suggestions! Drilled out a few "planter" holes in the cement and foam and got them covered again! And I think I love the idea for killies! From what I've seen, basically a step or two up from the ever prolific guppies!

Made some more progress. Got some plants put into place and trying to start a dwarf hairgrass carpet. I've never had very much luck with aquatic plants but I have my fingers crossed for this project.uploadfromtaptalk1411531563970.jpg
