i used to say i was a fish guy n not a coral guy. but when i switched to saltwater man o man was i wrong :P i still love me some beasty ass fish in a big tank but the great thing bout a reef is u can still put as much if not more passion into n it takes up half the space. Maybe one day ill get a moster fish tank again but for now im pretty happy wit the reeef
I saw my friend 125g tank and I must say I still love monster fish more than reef. Monster fish is so fun watching them feed.:D I guess I need something a bit more entertaining and interacting with me than watching colors under the water. I agreed that with salt there is so much variations to tinker with the setup. The downside to salt is that it is really expensive if you become passionate about it. For me I like to keep it simple and maintainance free. This also cut down cost of the salt hobby.

i dunno what he warned u about with stonies but I see uve got some frog spawn in there.. thats a stony n a fast growing stony too so keep ur calcium n alkalinity in check...
He said it's a hardy stony so nothing to worry about. I got it free from him so it doesn't put a dent in the wallet.:D

If you have $250 to spare then you can get a nice used nano setup. A used nano typical cost you way less than $250.

Usually, "stony" refers to small polyp stony coral (SPS) and they are much tougher to keep than other corals. Frogspawn is NOT SPS but rather, LPS and is much hardier and easier to keep than what most reefers refer to as "stony" coral which would include acros, digis, montis, torts... etc.

It is a stony coral because it builds its own hard skeleton, but definitely not SPS.

Just thought I'd clear that up a bit Joe...

But yeah... keep the calc and alk in good standing to see the best growth and colors.

no stonies refers to anything that builds a skeleton. true lps r usually hardier but they r still going to deplete the calcium and carbonates in the water... thats all I was trying to say...

I'm not saying that anything you said was incorrect.

"It is a stony coral because it builds its own hard skeleton, but definitely not SPS."
It = frogspawn

I was just pointing out the fact that SPS are considered the difficult-to-keep coral... more so than LPS... more so that other stony coral.

I realize that Large Polyp STONY corals are stony.

"But yeah... keep the calc and alk in good standing to see the best growth and colors."

+1 to you bro

Another question, I have 3 gallons of salt water from my 5gal jug left over from my last waterchange. Can I use it on my next waterchange or would I have to dump it out and buy new water?
