when you say winter, what are you going to do when the winter comes and he is in the pond?

Thanks BiggertheBetter. I've actually made the pond completely (yet not easily) de-constructable. It's basically made of landscape timbers, with holes drilled through each end and all connected with rebar. Insulation board, and plywood on the inside under the pond liner. With that being said, my plan for the harsh Buffalo winters is to move the pond into the basement.

But I figured since this winter he won't be large enough to need to be in the pond, i'll take advantage of the opportunity of having it broken for winter to DIY a glass or acrylic viewing window on the front. Obviously some "minor modifications" would have to be made lol(or huge modifications!) But that was my original plan when first building the pond. I skipped it only because I was afraid of cutting the pond liner and sealing it to viewing window.

Finally added some leaf cover to hide some of the mechanics...so here is the final(always a work in progress) product!

Good stuff. Keep us posted of the window aspect. I have always been interested in how people seal windows to a rubber liner and more importantly how it works for them in the long run and more info is always great as the liner way is by far and large the cheapest way to make ponds compared to concrete, wood, fiberglass, metal, plastic, pretty much anything else.

Well...its been a looong time and BamBam is nearly 14" now. But I'm pretty sure I have horrible news. I think he ate one of my filter intake guards! I can see a tube shaped bulge in his abdomen. Anything I can possibly do?? I think its been 2 days

These guys are so cool and show some awesome colors. Mine grew out to about 14" before he decided it would be a good idea to eat a suction that held the filter hose. Got stuck in his throat and slowly starved him to death. They will try to eat anything that will fit in their mouth. Your guy looks great!

Well...as crazy as it sounds to me, I found a "fish vet" that is about 40min away. Giving serious consideration about calling today to see if they would do surgery!?

They normally throw up items that they can't digest. You could still call and ask how much the surgery would cost?
