First saltwater tank.

I have heard that saltwater tanks should be kept to a ratio of one cubic inch per every two gallons. I think anything over that is considered to be heavy stocking.

I would recommend that you start with one or two fish and get the corals going. Then, once that is all going well, add new fish one at a time every now and then.

I do definitely think that a sump is the way to go. However, I would look into an auto water top off that uses FRESH water to replace any evaporated water. This is because the corals are very sensitive to salinity changes and as we all know from elementary science class, salt does not evaporate with the water, hence, salinity goes up with the evaporation of water.

Sounds like you have a good start. If you take it slow then I think you should have no problems that you aren't able to easily correct before anyone bad happens.

Btw, I have never kept saltwater, so take my advice with a grain of salt. I
have done a lot of research on keeping one though.
Even using 1 cubic inch per 2 gallons, I don't think I'm even at 20 gallons. I will invest into a top off, but until then a black sharpie will do.

I haven't seen much of you anymore. Why's that?

I still get on and read a few times a day but I haven't had much going on with my project recently. Short answer: wife, son, work, school, parents, in-laws, siblings, etc...lol. I keep pretty busy and don't have tons of time to get my 220 up and running. It's getting closer, little by little. I have the baffles for the 55gal sump, but haven't installed them yet. Getting close to moving it from the garage to the house.

I'm at the same place you are with my 75g sump. I took out the baffles to re-silicone, and haven't put them back in.

All i know is that starfish are annoying buggers that always take my bait. As everyone else said start small on it. other than that i am useless at saltwater

After looking into the prices of a good HOB skimmer, salt, test kits, rock, etc... It came out to nearly 1k. For a 60 gallon. I guess that's the thing about saltwater, you can't be cheap with lighting and filtration and get away with it.

thats why i am not even looking into that stuff, too much temptation

After the fish and corals it will be near 1500+. It will look nice though, and if I use ozone, carbon, a skimmer, and keep the stock at 3/4 of max or below I should get away with one water change a month.
