ya I dont know why they make you swim so much considering you dont really do a lot of hard work when scubaing (real word, who would of thought)...

It depends on what kind of diving you're talking about. Shore diving in particular can require some very heavy swimming. Currents/tides can intensify without warning. River diving can be a real workout.

I do get your point - If everything goes as planned you shouldn't have to swim that hard MOST of the time. :)

I have learned the trick form surfing... rip tides are your friends :D since they suck you out past the breaks :D, I am not saying you shouldnt know how to swim but I dont know why they make you swim so much to get your ticket... even my instructor didnt know why. But I mostly dive lakes due to my location.

It was funny as heck when i went for my Basic Certification there was 2 people that had NO IDEA how to swim, they had never even been in the water before...LOL My instructor told them YOU'RE KIDDING ME RIGHT...needless to say they didn't pass the swim and tred part...

Finished all my classes and signed up for my open water dives.

im going to be buying my gear.
which will probally hit the bank acct harrrrrrdddd.

im going with a under arm or side inflate BC, then once I get better I think ill upgrade to a back inflate for better buoyancy underwater.

NEED INPUT PLZ~

that's it? 500M?
we had to do a mile in a pool and 500M in a lake... lucky!

it is cool though.. i just got my advanced certification.. it's really an awesoem sport.. i suggest alot of fruit.. and gallons of water

YES!

you never notice yourself sweating while swimming and its the EASIEST place to get dehydrated! especially if your in a chlorinated pool.

I actually prefer the side inflate BC. I have both styles, and never use my backback style. All of my gear is Dacor. I love it.... fins, regs, BC, mask etc.... Ok, well, my wesuits are all Body Glove. I've abused the crap out of them and they take it well. Pinnicle is another solid brand for a good dive wetsuit.

:grinno:Hey, i would suggest scubapro for most of your equipment especially regulators, otherwise Pinacle is great for wetsuits i have one and its keeps me toasty in the Capetown waters, especialy if you plan multiple dive days like me (i'm an instructor). Oh and the swim is just to see that you can handle your buddy needing a tow or push as well as if u have a long swim back to land/boat...:grinno: Anyway enjoy your dives!!!:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2
