I have an 8 foot long red tail via had him for 4.5 years, I've found to keep heat and humidity your gonna want to build a plywood terrarium with a glass front and with this you can make a large tank for cheap,

He's getting a cali king not a red tail.

Terrarium looks nice op.

It doesn't matter what he's getting? Do you think an adult king snake wouldn't like a large foot print? And I was just giving him a tip to hold heat an humidity, glass is the worst for reptiles iv had a few thanks for your input tho

Thanks, everyone. I do have one piece of DW, but I'll probably add some more stuff sometime. It's only about 20 inches, so this 20 long will work for a while then I have a 40 breeder I can use unless I end up needing something with a longer, narrower footprint. If I have problems with heat and humidity, I'll deal with it. Was labeled as a goini, lol. Little bastard keeps getting in the substrate and I can't find it...paranoid about it escaping. The tank has two slots on each side in the back where the back of the lid goes in and then the front is held down by a rotating piece of plastic on each side. It's secure, but I'm worried about them getting bumped or something. Any ideas how to secondarily secure it?

Stay away from the heat pad. 40 watt red bulb in a painters lamp will do the trick. Try not to feed same day or time each week. Feed random. I've had 20 plus foot pythons, tree boas. Albino cobra to a west African gaboon viper. Make sure lid is secure. Snakes make Houdini look like an armature. Good luck. Reptiles make cool pets.

very nice looking snake paul

Awsome snake Paul. A snake is where my wife draws the line. Oh well. At least she doesn't mind monster fish, lizards, and after some getting use to. ..tarantulas.

I'd much rather have the heat pad for aesthetics, but it's not heating it up enough, so I'll probably end up doing that soon.
