Stay away from the heat pad. 40 watt red bulb in a painters lamp will do the trick. Try not to feed same day or time each week. Feed random. I've had 20 plus foot pythons, tree boas. Albino cobra to a west African gaboon viper. Make sure lid is secure. Snakes make Houdini look like an armature. Good luck. Reptiles make cool pets.

I have to advise against all of that... I rarely post on this forum any more because there is just to much bad information going around in the reptile section and no doubt I'll end up in an argument here as well because of it. but every now and again I just have to get involved...
While this isn't the worst advice that I have seen given here it certainly isn't the best.
You can use a heat bulb if you must but belly heat is always better for snakes. Under tank heaters are far superior for heating snakes as they provide a much more even and direct belly heat without drying out the environment (although that's not usually a concern with a cal king) and are even cheaper to run. Most easily available heat pads that you can get at any pet store (zoomed and zilla etc.) are made safely for direct use but it is ALWAYS advised to use a thermostat with them. I would also strongly suggest getting a PE temp gun... something I think all reptile keepers should have in order to accurately measure the surface temperature of your hot spots.
I have never heard of anyone feeding on a random schedule for any reason but It shouldn't hurt anything just as long as you aren't feeding like 2 days apart or something like that, keep it to once a week.
