I found black worms! And he looks like he is eating them! He's very active I don't know if that's normal but he swims all around! And no the pet store does not carry them, I had to go to another shop that does saltwater and they had them there. I have the black worms in fresh cold water. He's in a 55 gallon grow out tank with a peacock bass and two ID sharks. They're all doing well. And eating good. Hopefully he will get thick real soon. I put a small amount of net fulls of black worms in like three times a day... Is that over feeding? I don't want him to die and I'm just trying to bulk him up so he won't

Eating is a very good sign, from all I've read. Alot of these, wild caught reticulatus, should have parasites, so treating with prazi pro is important, or anything similar to that, that rays can handle. Their sensetive to some medications, if I remember correctly.

I don't want to put any medications in the tank because I have other fish in there. I got him from a store, they didn't say he was wild caught... But it could be for all I know

No meds yet... lots of food.. multiple times a day. And it is wild caught. Glad she is eating

The meds will kill the blackworms, just so you know.

Also, 55 gallons isn't much water volume for a ray. Especially with tankmates. What's you filtration like? I sense an ammonia spike may be coming.

Water change regimen?

Yeah the 55 is just a grow out tank til they all get bigger to transfer into a bigger tank. I do water changes twice a week to keep everything clean. And they will be moving into a 150 when they get a little bigger with a homemade filter that pumps 750 gallons an hour

What people are trying to tell you is your tank is too small, you have not researched your ray, this species has needs/feeding you should be aware of before purchasing, the ray has no business in a 55 gallon especially with those tank mates. I truely hope you mean you are going to upgrade soon. If you wait until the ray gets big enough to upgrade it will not make it that long based on what I have read in this thread.

I don't mean to sound harsh but I feel sorry for this ray. You seem like a nice member with good intentions so please don't take that the wrong way. Good luck with your ray i hope it works out and you get the bug like the rest of us.

No I totally understand! No trust me once I start get him eating and starting to feel comfortable and getting bigger I'm going to move him! I just feel like the 55 for him right now is a good idea for the start.

Just would.like to add about treating for parasites. You are supposed to quarantine the Ray for a few months. If the Ray has parasites and I'm sure he does. Then any other tankmates need to be treated.

+1 do a small water change daily and you might be able to keep him in that 55 for a few months

It would be wise to separate him from the other fish - ID sharks can get pretty pushy when it comes to feeding time, and so can P Basses. You want the ray to MORE THAN just "eat." You need it to gain serious weight, which it cannot, if the other fish are sharing the food and eating up any leftovers.
