first sysnpilum

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks good. Mine was pretty skittish for a while when smaller but now, at 10"+ he comes right out, front and center, when I walk in the room.

I have both synspillum and melanurus, and their jevenile pattern is identifcal. Synspillum has red head, but not much more red and orange in the body. Melanurus has more red and orange from head, body to tail so it is a darker fish or has more "melanin". Whether they are different species or different color morph of the same species is a matter of debate depending on the standard for speciation.

Awesome colouration on so small a future beastie!

Thanks guys!

I've gotten used to his laid back personality. And for a little guy, he eats so fast!

Till next update....

I love the black spotting that starts at the tail. Some syns it points down and just isnt as nice.

It was sold to me as male but i'm happy either way. Eventually, I'll put him in a community with other syns.

You have a good pick of your first syns which shows great color. How big is yours?

Not two syns look the same as they have so much variation in color, shade and pattern. Mine is 11 inch, not as intensely red as yours, and remains shy. Except for feeding time, he likes to stay motionless facing the back corner of the tank. When he was a juvenile, he was so skittish that he wound jump up if I approached the tank too quickly.
