First Tank Build - 400 Gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
tank looks good but i think spray bar can further fluctuate tank temp just my opnion
Yah having the pump in there for the spray bar would add a good amount of heat to the system, which is what I want to maintain a higher temperature in the tank.

The tank looks great. The one thing I would say is you might want to rethink the motoro with your current stock.
Yah I actually have decided not to go with a ray at all, my set up isn't going to be ideal for keeping rays, thanks :)

Got back from the city today, bought some fish to grow out in the 80.
6x Jack Dempsey Cichlids (all are close to 1")
3x Green Terror Cichlids (all are about 1.25")
1x Silver Arowana (3")

In other news, my Oscar I got from my buddy I noticed tonight had Ich, so I caught him and got him out of the tank, none of the other fish have it. Treating him in another tank, but not too sure if he will make it. Also, my 14.5" Clown Knife still has not eaten anything and it's been almost a week...

He's a large fish, a week won't hurt him, if he goes another 2 it might be a problem however. Just keep offering food.
What kind of thing's should I be offering???
Be careful with Ich, just because you removed the infected fish doesnt mean its gone. It took me two weeks of
dosing to rid my tank of it
I've had it once a long time ago too, I think the Ich came on my buddies Oscar, I don't think the parasites had long enough to drop off the host and reproduce at all, since my tank is fairly cold right now the Ich cycle is longer. Hoping not anyways, the infected fish has been out for a few days and still no Ich anywhere else.

Got the rest of my rock (actually got about 120lbs too much lol) in the tank today, starting to look more and more like I want! Needs more plants and driftwood. I ordered a JBJ 1000w heater today as well, I know I don't need that much of a heater, but i figured better too much than too little, the 300w is just not cutting it. Re-did the top and changed the design, almost finished that, just need some more wood.

Here's a quick video of what it looks like now :)

This is what my new design looks like for the top, the lights are over the glass and covered with an insulated box. The back part is 3 doors consisting of 7 2x4's laminated together and foam on the bottom. All the foam on the cover is wrapped with vapor barrier. This new design seems to trap more heat so that's good. Here is a few pictures.

Mt little Silver Aro I bought Sunday still is not eating, my Aros in the past have ate right away so I'm not sure what's going on with him.

looks good....I just finished building mine. Its dimnsions are about the same but instead of 7 feet it is 6. probably in the 300 gallon area. I used 3/4 plywood but used a different method to line it. Im wondering if once you filled it did you notice if the back bowed out in the middle at all? Mine is a little bit bowed and im just wondering if I should be concerned. I have top braces in place but it still makes me a little uneasey seeing the slight buldge

Yah, the LR didn't add any rigidity to the tank. My back bows out probably 1/4", it's nothing to worry about unless it is alot of bow (like over 3/4") and it depends on how you assembled the tank. Since I have two 2x4 braces across the top and braced the inside corners with wood adhered with PL Premium along with fiberglass I would be comfortable with it bowed 3/4" because I know how strong my joints are and obviously the plywood won't fail. If you descibe to me your materials and assembly I can give you a better answer pertaining to your own tank.
