Hey right ignore the cloudyness... just conducted a big water change... had these fish now for 3 days and they seem really really happy... why am I finding it so easy lol.. the water here is quite hard but at the LFS they only had 1/3 RO water anyway so he said as long as I break them in gently they would be fine

Here are some pics... will get more when the cloud departs :)

Can ya help ID them... the labels were up and I am returning there soon to add more when the tank matures a little but in the meantime I forgot lol... one was Turquoise Something (lost its colour due to waterchange atm)

never kept discus, nor a real big fan of them, but i think this is the ONLY situation I have ever seen where I actually like the unnatural gravel

Haha thanks... well got my eels and oscars so thought I should try something challenging and so far it's been pretty smooth sailing... was going to try the tank bare but couldn't "bare" it so got a very thin layer of fine gravel.. has been really easy to vaccum so not causing a problem as of yet...

the first one is kinda tricky, but if you say its a turq, it can be a turq. the second one is a spotted leopard of some sort (too many names in the market..i like to stick with the basics) :D

Could anyone ID them for me please?
my wife can, but she's at work. She resentley converted or 55 gallon tank to a discus tank. imo, she's gettin a lil nuts with it, but she's already an expert on these lil guys (not technically) but it makes her feel better. lol

if you need extra help or have questions, shoot me a pm and ill let her know to answer them for you if she knows the answers.

cool tank btw:headbang2

If you remember that almost solid blue discus listed as a turquoise, then it is probably a blue turquoise. Its almost solid pattern seems more like a cobalt to me.

The other fish with the red spots and lines looks like an eruption leopard discus. From that name it seems like a discus made from 2 varieties, the penang eruption and leopard discus. The fine lines may start to merge as it gets older, making it look more like a red turquoise.

Almost all the discus fish I see offered at LFS are stunted and ugly and overpriced, so it's great that you're starting with good and healthy stock! G/L

Thanks guys... yeah the LFS I use is brilliant and one of their staff members there is very clued up on Discus which is why I bought one... he even wouldn't sell me the that I picked as is had a nick on the side of it which I failed to notice...

They're both still very shy, could this mean I need to get some more to help settle them in as it's just the two of them at the moment.

First one is a turquoise or a cobalt....too young to tell if it is a cobalt yet (patterns almost disappear when matured). Second is a leopard. I am very surprised that you got these good quality fish from a LFS. They look healthy and great quality. I would most definetly recommend getting 2-3 more to make them comfortable since discus are a schooling fish. Plus more fish will lessen any aggression issues. Keep the temp warm and the water changes frequent and you will do well.

Thanks Ry... yeah their site is http://www.fishkeeper.co.uk/store_details.php?storeid=28

Really good staff in there and definately has been my fav LFS for years, I mean in this neck of the woods there are many... almost every gardencentre will have an aquatic store. Some look amazing but you can just tell the quality of their fish are very poor... may go get some more discus today then... the tank has a filter hooked up from one of my main tanks containing half the original filter media so it's cycling really well already anyway.
