You can get 10 2" RBs for $80 at aquascape to put in your tank. They will not all make it but in the end you should have at least 6-7 left.

ok thats what i was thinking of doing, i just wanted to make sure that wasn't to many

your buying the 2 inchers? the small ones really thrive with live blackworms..

yea i know but i can't get those around here. i do get feeders and thats it

3-4 pygos (excluding piraya)
or a solo rhom.
or a manny
and no feeders...unless your feeders are mollies or cichlids, etc.
use shrimp, fish fillet, etc

please do not buy 10 RBPS for a 75 gallon thats way too many. if you care for your fish and feed them properly casualties should not really be an issue. your Ps will grow 6-8 inches in the first year if taken care of properly. and they can reach 10-12 inches as adults in a few years. 20 gallons per fish for life. you can keep 4-6max with 10x over filtration. RBPs are very skittish. most people get sick of them bc the bang around on the glass and are scared of everything. If you want a real wow fish. consider a solo serra. many are very aggressive and will chase your finger and have a much more out going personality. personalty varies from fish to fish and can take a few days or a few years to come out. RBPs are noteably the most skittish but all pygos can be skittish. caribe and piraya tend to be less so. Black rhoms can have great personalites my 10 inch rhom is very interactive he is in a 75 gallon and is very active and it fits him well. i also have a 90 gallon with a 5 inch manny in it and he snaps at the glass and is way more aggressive than any Pygo i have had. which i have had shoals of RBP Piraya and Caribe. separtate and mixed. After years of keeping piranhas i have basically come to the conclusion that the best shoal is caribe or piraya, but you also have to deal with fin nipping and damage and a lot more bio load. since i like perfect fish i prefer the solo serra.

these are just my experiences keeping Ps. i have been in the hobby for about 12 years straight now.

bottom line. please for a 75 gallon for life get 4-6 max. get 10x the gph turn over on the filters. Do lots of consistent water changes. and feed a good varied diet.

ok well i love the rhoms but i am 15 and on a short budget of about $200 every two weeks, i would love a black rhom no doubt about it, i love that fish. i all the blacks i have found are a little pricey. i will also look into the serra, i have really only done some research on the black rhom and the rbps.

if i were to go with the black rhom or some kind of diamond rhom, what would you suggest best to feed them. i will very shortly begin to breed mollies probably around 7-8 mollies so i should be lacking on the feeders side. but some say thats not the best way to go. i have a very limited selection of food so if its something i would have to order, could any one give me a link to a good dry,wet foods store or something.

believe me you are doing the right thing asking lots of questions and reading about this stuff online BEFORE you buy. soooo many ppl get piranhas then post here and are let down bc they thought the dime size rbps they bought were going to be super killers and they turn out to be skittish. you can do things like put the tank where there are constantly ppl so they get used to it, but for the most part that is the RBPs natural disposition. if you like them and want them and understand what to expect then by all means get them.

in regards to food. you shouldn't have to order anything. the best food to get them on is pellets bc they are packed with goodness. hikari cichlid pellets are great. also at least some of these white meat fish such as Talapia, catfish, scallops, shrimp, smelt, and cod should be available locally in your supermarket. i feed mostly smelt, cat fish, and shrimp. just make sure that its RAW uncooked shrimp. also you can feed nightcrawlers and feeders occasionally. those mollies will go super fast. your breeding mollis idea for feeders is agood idea, but it should only be a supliment to their diet and not the staple.

are you planning on buying a piranha online or locally? a 6 inch black rhom would be around $100 you could probably get an 8 inch for around $200. which would thrive in a 75 gallon. you also have other options check shark aquarium or aquascapeonline

the 8 inch spilo would be a good choice so would the margitanus. they are both under $150 and they are known to be agressive and a fish that size would probably be pretty outgoing and have a good wow factor. also elongs are known to be pretty aggressive along with manuelli. also aquascape just got in some gibbus piranha which are extremely rare. i have been in piranhas over decade and they are hardly ever avaialble. another rare one that is actually around is the Altuvei at aquascape. if i had a free tank right now i would def be getting one.

bottom line if you gotta save a lil longer to get the fish you really want and love it will be better than if you buy quick just to get some Ps. you will be much happier in the long run. i looked around and was patient when looking for a rhom i got my 10 inch black diamond rhom for $125 dollars.

let me know if you have any other questions or whatever.

well its hunting season right now and i won't be able to do anything until november so i will be saving until then. making $200 every two weeks for three months would give me enough i would think, im still trying to figure out the perfect P but the black rhom is on the top of the list as of now.

when i start breeding mollies they won't be a all the time food, the mollies would be mainly for my smaller lemon oscar in the 55 gallon tank and maybe every once in a while give some to the P.

i have fish in my 75 gallon tank that are a little bit scarce for there mates, my pacu is flipping out, my oscar is flipping out, and my parrot fish are attacking everything it can. so i am kinda waiting until i find out what i can do with these fish before i get a P but i feel i will be needing to rid of the pacu in the months to come.

another quick question, are there any fish that can safely be housed with any P? if seen people that do, my dad had a pleco with his P's and i was wondering if there were anything i could put in there that they won't eat. kind of a stupid question but want to get the tank set-up in my head before on the ground.
