i figured that a captive raised P wouldn't be as aggressive as a wild caught P. i will be looking around for such needed items. if push comes to shove i will have to order a filter but i think i can handle the rest. so i take it i can't get any fish to help keep the tank clean? such as pleco, or such janitor fish?

you can use janitor fish but don't get attached to them.

It varies from fish to fish but wild caught Ps seem to be more skittish IMO.

i can see how that is, they don't see humans as often as captive Ps

you can probably get a medium to large plecco and it should live with your p without getting killed. The p will likely harrass it, bite and pull on its tail, even try to sink its teeth into the pleccos back, but pleccos are pretty tough and all the ones I have kept with my p's have lived through the entire time in the tank. But they wont clean your tank as much as you might think, thats more of a myth about pleccos. Most of the crap in the tank you will have to clean yourself. Focus on getting a good filter and even then you'll still have to pull scraps out occasionally and do water changes.

+1

:iagree:

just make sure the pleco is a good bit larger than your P's when he goes in. He aint gonna be pretty, and there's no guarantees but he'll last a while. I agree they don't really do a lot of cleaning really. They eat such a high fiber diet that some of the waste they put out is HUGE!

i have three very large plecos, so maybe put one of them in the tank. anything we missed that is important and could really help if not missed

yeah your pleccos should be fine in the tank, there is probably even another reason why a p wont eat a plecco, they probably taste like the **** they suck on all day. lol

Anyway you should be all set, make sure you monitor the temperature closely. And please let us know what fish you get, and when you get it.

make sure you remove all uneaten food immediately after feeding. When the NO3's start to spike, you'll know why..

oh yeah
