First time Sturgeon fishing

Well the fish we caught was about 25 years old so they would be ok for a little bit in a pond or tank but what would you do when it gets 5 foot let it go into the wild. And i cant believe that it is legal to keep them there are way to many laws about catching them.

Well we are obviously talking about white and yes the shovel is very endangered. That is what is in the picture. if you hook a shovel you cant even bring it out of the water.
