Fish as Gifts

I generally thing it is a bad idea, just like all alive things should not be presents, I would say for obvious reasons. BUT I did get 4 Clown Loaches as a gift.
Gave an ex-boyfriend a betta and 5 gallon tank set up for Christmas once. He tought it was really wierd that I'd give him a fish. He ended up really liking it, though.
Every year I ask for a new fish or aquarium related stuff, even print out pictures. In 10 years I've got nothing fish related, not even a gift certificate. DH gave me a white gold, diamond and peridot ring one year (yes it is lovely.) All I could think was: Do you know what kind of a tank I could do for what this hunk of metal cost!"
