Both xlnt options. If it turns out that your fish doesn't make it you may want to consider slipping the dearly departed behind the stove at that gentleman's house.

Maybe pop the lid off of his toilet water tank and slide that bad boy in.

Just thinking out loud. Certainly not a suggestion. Fish can be entertaining, can't they? Hoooooo hah!

Side question, how does the bluegill get on with the african cichlids? Does it chase them or get chased by them, or largely ignore each other? What cichlids are they, peacocks?

Yes they are a mix of peacocks and lake Malawi cichlids, they get along just as if he was a normal cichlid. I even have a fire eel and green sunfish in that same tank.
