Honestly I do not care where he posted it. I don't understand why he is being flamed for his opinion. I just looked at his website. The only thing I see is that it says live arrival guarantee. That is pretty vague. If what aranos says is true then how would he know when they were shipped. According to him he says they never called or e-mailed him with a flight time. I do not know about you, but I do not know any mind readers. If they truley did not call him or contact him, then they are 100% at fault. Nothing you say will change that fact. That is what I am defending the fact that the vendor needs to step up and take responsibility and honor his live arrival policy, if the facts stated are true. But instead he told the client to **** off. BAD BUSSINESS no matter how you justify it.

Amen! Thank you for being familiar with the situation before you call me a manwoman, hehe.

Guess I'd better go back a few pages so I can figure out how oddballer's thread morphed into aranos' thread. Best derail job I've seen in a while.

Call it derail or progression, if he's alluding to me and others are resorting to name calling I can't help but defend myself. My apologies if I hijacked Oddball's thread, it's all his from now on.

No I don't "complain" that TFD is the only vender that can get me a certain fidh. I praise them for being one of the only venders able to do so. I complain that their misleading me lead to the death of my fish. I think I will have to live without my elephant nose knife now. But not because I beat him down on the price, rather because he shipped it in freezing weather without telling me so I didn't know to pick it up. More of my fish have died since then, and I didn't ask for credit for them because they arrived alive. All I asked for was for them to honor their policy, because it was their fault the fish died to begin with. He told me to scew off. What else was I supposed to do?

I'm out also. My apologies to Aranos. I believe that his issue is getting muddied with another issue that was posted earlier.

Back to what ever this thread started out as. Let me help.
The radical reconstruction of the south after the Civil War was neither radical nor a reconstruction. Discuss.

Look I will not get into any pissing matches back and forth. I agree with you . If you don't like the policy don't buy. In the same respect if you don't like little pricks nickel and diming you DO NOT NEGOTIATE. Set your prices and stick to them. IF you don't want to guarantee the fish then Don't. Put no live arrival guarantee in yours terms and let the customer decide if they want to do bussiness with you. I never said you were at fault for your transaction. In fact if you look back in other threads I defended you. Policy is Policy and is it. As for your policy with negotiating. I think it is Crap. That is my oppinion and you won't change it. Oppinions are like *******s everyone has one and most of them stink. That's the bottom line and and be littling me won't change it.

Putting this back on track. I agree with this. Why even have negotiating terms if it doesn't allow you enough money to cover doa's which will result in bad publicity. I agree with alot of what NE Cichlids is saying.

Also I think if you're not making enough money to cover doa's that are a result of bad communication, or other communication error then obviously the business isn't working. Or you're just being stubborn and not wanting to give a little to make a happy customer.

I am all for TFD, I think he is a small operation and is providing a great service. I remember months ago when I used to hear "I called TFD and they won't sell to anyone but stores" Which had alot of people down and either he changed his policy to make more money or someone was misinforming someone. Sucks to hear he up'd his minimum but he has to do what he has to do.

And whoever said it is right. No seller has a 100% live track record and people need to realize that. So the DOA's although wanting them to be kept at minimum will happen. It's just up to your seller to be upstanding and decide if it really is something in the name of good business practices that should be covered.

I also hear people *****ing and moaning about sellers saying a fish is a certain size and then when you get it the fish is 1" smaller or 1/2" smaller. But realize that many times sellers have a tank full of fish and obviously they're not all exactly the same size. So they place a guesstimate on size to let customers know they're around that size and not everyone is right on the money.

WELL SAiD ODDBALLL!!!!
:headbang2 whoooooooooooo

stop being conceited ppl~
hahhaa

this hobby is damn expensive.
and very work oriented.

i've only ordered snails online bcuz its the cheapest price for it and shipping.

but, if i had enough tank space and money to order online.
i wouldnt trip on Vendors...
bcuz im ballin enough to take a loss.

besides, just like the man said.
People that sell fish, sell them for the joy of it, they dont get so much out of it. (like Oddball Being Worshipped like some fish deity~ ROFL j'k )

i'd also like to add that...
all those reasons can be accounted as the same risks we take when buying a fish at our LFS.
except the fact that, they tend to hook u up with another one, or a discount.

but a flight from another state~
means a plastic bag filled with Oxygen, water, and a fish.
inside of a box... is sent from airport to airport.

you never know when a Mahalalalala will hi-jack the airplane with your precious prized specimen.

Or Tim the box mover 'accidentily' throws your box without a care.

Or even quite possibly the quantum physics of the air pressure and altitude will puncture the bag and kill your fish. :screwy: :naughty: :screwy: :naughty: :screwy:

lol j'k. but yeah guys.
Cut The Vendors Some Slack. :D :D :D :D :D
they're doing the best they can to deal with us insane crazy MFkeepers.

With the recent drama about certain vendors I decided to express my view on the whole "online" sales situation and transactions....... I'll state the facts as i see em..... so many of you reading may not like what i'm about to say..... but "if the cap fits".......:nutkick:

Before the internet fish hobbyist were like detectives when trying to find certain species.... rushing into the LFS on shipment days to see whats new..... i remember going through my phone book and calling up 10 different "petstores" hoping to find a FW snowflake eel..... Finally SCORE i found one.... I only had to drive 3hrs to pick it up..... Nowadays all you have to do is scroll through a couple forums or email a vendor to see if they have what your looking for on their suppliers list......

As some of you may remember i used to sell fish online as well...... due to my fragile ego i wanted to make a name for myself online.... and figured that was the best way to do so....... I honestly thought i was Robin hood.... giving back to the fish community with great prices and hard to get species..... My ego inflated..... letters of gratitude and pictures of my fish were posted up everwhere...... it was fun...... I knew i was not going to get rich selling "oddballs"..... the risks were higher and the markup was smaller...... but still i did it cuz it was fun..... I even used to give away free fish with every purchase........ I spent countless hours playing email tag and juggling phone calls...... I even sent many people fish before payment because i trusted you guys...... sure i got burnt acouple times....... but it was all worth it.... because " I WAS THE MAN!!!"

As the months went by the novelty of admiration amongst my peers wore off........ I started to see a trend amongst the customers...... i had many "smaller" who would get together "group orders" to save on freight..... that was fine but it took alot of work packing and seperating individual shipments....... pretty soon what i was doing for liesure became work..... it seemed like i just was not able to satisfy certain customers no matter what i tried...... but yet they keep buying..... and with every purchase i had problems with this or that...... it got to a point where i had to cut off certain people becaue the were "killing my buzz"....... Then i noticed that these same people had problems with other vendors too.....

I worked fish retail for 11yrs.... and sold cars for 6months prior to going into the wholesale side of the industry....... one thing i noticed was that some people walk around with a pinched sphincter always...... no matter how genuine your trying to be...... they believe that eveyone is out to get them....... they think that they are the most important person the whole world....... perhaps they're right...... to them they are...... but don't expect everyone to believe that as well....... back to my original point..... I noticed that the majority of "online" customers fall into this category... (YEAH YOU)....... i came up with a theory as to why........

Lets take the car biz for instance....... the most (pain in the arse) customers are the one's who come in with a stack of papers.... printing quotes and specs frome a dozen different dealerships shopping for the best deal...... finally ending up saving a few hundred dollars but spending twice as much in TIME AND MONEY...... thats why the leave getting a "good deal" on paper but still have that "not so fresh feeling"...... Well YOU guys are very similar...... spending hours of time online researching and shopping for that "monster" that your LFS won't carry...... you cannot expect a vendor to have the same amount of emotional attachment to each shipment like you do.......

In a perfect world fish don't die and airline do not make mistakes........ but Atlantis is underwater and earth has "union workers"....... Many times people don't consider the risks the vendor takes on every shipment....... Delays, mishandling, bag puntures are all "normal" in the fish biz...... I lose thousands every week due to factors out of my control....... its all part of my business..... its called shrinkage...... The supplier should absorb the majority of this.... its their business to do so....... but some people expect too much.......

"oh the fish was .5" smaller that you said" or "the fish died in a week" or "it didnt eat right away when i put it in my tank" or my personal favorite...... "it got killed by its tankmates"...... A vendor can have a perfect track record only to get it derailed by one bad transaction....... I remember a time when i was selling Arapaima Gigas for $20...... I had one guy flame me online because i wasnt able to save him any.......:screwy: another one of my favorites is when a customer begs me to order a certain fish..... and when i do...... "oh i don't have room"......

Anyways the point i'm trying to make is YOU need to cut the vendor some slack at times....... your not that important!!!!! they are doing their best they can at that time....... No one functions at 100% 24/7..... some times you need to meet them halfway because they have already taken losses to be able to provide you with the opportunity to buy fish online.......

just my .03cents.......
One dissagreement... In a perfect world, all LFS have every fish, everyone wants, all the time, and they are free, and in perfect conditions, and shape. :D

Personally I prefer paying the extra money to be able to look at the fish first, and decide if I want to buy it rather than order not being certain of what condition a fish is going to arrive in.

Well I guess its time for my 2 cents worth. First off I have never been on the sellars side of the street so i can't help in their argument, however some good points were made, 2nd i have bought from online once and felt like i wasn't treated right by the buisiness that i was dealing with. However i haven't flamed them as it was put, but i did stop giving my buisiness to them. for the consumer if you deal with a buisiness and don't like the way you are treated or think you are getting a crappy deal. Then move on, As it was stated by oddball you are not the center of the world period. get over yourself. If you are the one conducting yourself as the buisiness/owner get over yourself. You may claimto be the best and you may or maynot what makes you the best is your customers.....If you honor your word, and stand behind what you sell then those who ***** and complain about their order being 1" smaller or DOA or mommy didn't treat me right will be the ones to die early. As a buisiness owner youhave the right to deny SERVICE to ANYONE.And when they flame you go back and fix it not with that customer but to the ones who are keeping you alive and fed. Now if you are buisiness who is shady in your work, you do not honor your word, or you are just plain S@#$% then you deservr to bve flamed and when you raise your cost to off set the loss then you will eventually will be living on the street in a card board box or you will be asking myself and all your other customers if theyt would like fries with that or would you care to supersize that for 39 more cents. Personally i think we should take all the customers who complain over frivolous crap and pack them in a box, and then have all the crappy buisiness' out there pay to ship them to a deserted island and then they can complain about death and dying to all the other customers out there and the bad buisiness' can raise their prices to offset the loss of customers so that hey have someone to blame besides themselves when they are sweeping the street looking for money or a half eaten FISH sandwich
