Fish collecting in the Amazon?

There are 2 companies I know of that have Aquarium Expeditions..

Look to talk to Oliver Lucanus at Below Water, in Canada..

I also believe George at Shark Aquarium does a trip..

and if you want to go to Venezuela talk to Ivan at Mikofish.com.. hes a great personable guy and will go with you on the trip to wherever or whatever you want to do..

also might try Miguel at AquariumPAEX.com as he is in contact with many fisherman in the jungles of Peru, such as Pucalpa and Iquitos.. his US friend Andre is married to a woman from Peru and travels down their frequently. Money talks.

Exporting the fish back depends on what your trip is like.. if you go with fish collectors you can have them hold the fish for 2 weeks at their facility while you fly back. It helps if you understand import/export paperwork so you can import the fish yourselves. You might need assistance from exporters and wholesalers to get the fish into your tanks.. but I believe the companies that do the planned, flat fee expeditions do all of that for you.

Good luck.

yea i actually read that many of the trips are out of Iquitos..Usually there are not major problems exporting the fish back to the States

that would be kool, but i wouldn't want really just anyone going out and doing that because then idiots will go out and take every fish they find and in a week the amazon will be empty...

i would catch me a few dozen piranhas and bring it back home
