fish death

So heres the story. My friend is getting married and they want to have goldfish in vases at each table. So they got a 30 gallon tank and are keeping about 30 of your standard gold fish in there. The problem is that each time we add fish about 4 of them die a night till they all go away. dont know whats causing this. we quarantined fish in other tanks and they dont die we add them to the big tank where were keeping them till the wedding and bam they die. all the water levels are normal on the water test. If you want more specifics let me know. there is no visible signs for why the fish would be dying. the water temp is being kept in the low 70s. any ideas on why these fish keep on dying? The fish are the cheap feeder gold fish, in case you wanted to know. Any ideas on whats wrong

well you have so may problems im not sure where to start.

well ill ask, what the filteration on that tank? and are you changing water and how much?

*sigh* so here we go.........

first off 30 feeders to a 30 gal is BEYOND overstocked, goldfish are pooping machines, they lack a true stomach and digest there food with a long alkaline gut, making them very inefficient at digesting food, so you get tons of waste which means alot of ammonia in the tank if there is no proper fitleration.

second- KEY WORDS:

feeder goldfish (well most of them) are kept in worst conditions

most if not all of them are most likely underfeed & diseased or have something wrong with them

if i was them id tell them to ditch the goldfish in the vase idea

its wrong for the goldfish to suffer because THEY want to have a nice looking goldfish vase on each table.

goldfish are very sturdy... i change water like hell and they are happy. with regards to disease.. never encoutered any until recently wich was my fault putting sick fish with them what escalated to parasite but no death count unlike my expensive plecos... just look out on the pet shop your buying the feeder. and put them in a quarantine first. :grinyes:
 
They will die in a vase faster than in the tank.
 
They may as well just go and get bettas for those vases....Goldfish DO NOT BELONG IN A SMALL CONTAINER.....

i recently got married and did a very simalir thing. i used gouarmis of differnt colors as they can breath from the surface. not only did everyone think they were beutiful we didn't lose a single one over two days. and they are all mostly still alive one year later.
 
I have seen neon cardinal tetras used. I happen to know that those were borrowed from a large established tank just for that day. They were kept in 1 gallon fishbowls with airstones at the reception. The aeration is probably another problem with taht many fish (the goldfish)
