that's not surprising to me. One of my Oscars Ate not one but two Plecos I had in the tank with them and they looked to be bigger than your Texas. My Oscars were about 6" each and the pleco was about 2" we never found the remains from them just one day we couldn't find one of them then a few days later the second one was gone.

I have a pike cichlid about 4in and a 10in Oscar and I knew he could be lunch but I risked it anyways. The Oscar chased it around the tank for the first half day and gave up. The pike simply was a good hider fast swimer and more manuverable than the Oscar. I guss its not only how big but how good a surviver the small guy is.

I just don't get why he would attempt a eat a fish that's too big. :\
Well I guess when my oscar is big enough he's just going to have a 75 to himself. Maybe a jack dempsey too, I'm not sure yet.

Edit: This was also kind of a shocker because my oscar didn't even attempt to eat fish half the size of the texas.

oscars aren't good judges. mine tried to eat the red devil's lips off i used to have before the red devil whopped his ass. it was maybe a 6" red devil and the oscar was 3" or so.
