Fish, fish, fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Almost any animals we take home are extremely dependent on us. I cannot count how many time I have to warm up a get a chemical heating pad and wrap it in towels just to keep my herps warm.

Now... I insulate everything... EVERYTHING! :nilly: It is easier to revive an animal from a cold state than a hot state.

Well they keep me sane.

Dude, same. My pets keep me sane.

Back to the topic; yes, sometimes I fear power outages and that stuff. Some fish are more hardy, others are more delicate, like discus. That's why if you house discus, you should have 2 heaters, in case that one blows up. Or stops working...

After having several long power cuts due to the flooding and weather it has made me realise how dependant our fish are on us, They need many life support items, like Heaters, filters, aeriation. Does anybody else agree?

of course man!
and vice-versa, i depend on my pets too :)

We had gone almost 20 years without any power failure lasting more than a minute. So when I set up three tanks, I just didn't give it much thought.

Then last year we lost power all night. What I did was use an AC car adapter that we purchased so my son could use his laptop on a long trip to Canada. I hooked up a 100" extension cord from the car to the fish room. The AC adapter provided enough power to keep one HOB running in each tank.

So yes the fish are totally dependant on us; lucky for them, we humans can be quite resourceful when faced with life threatening situations (fish's life this time)
