Canada eh?
I have a 30g tank in my room and have always wanted a Oscar fish, but im pretty sure a 30g wont be enugh due to there size :(

I want a fish with a similar persinality as a oscar, but will top out around 8" or so. Iv thought of flowerhorn but sadly they get to big aswell??

Any other ideas?? I really need a intelligent fish!!

Get a single blood parrot, great personality and 6-8inches max. I had one for 12 years in a 38, he was like a little puppy.

A blood parrot is actually a great idea, and i am really considering. Im just not to sure how i fell about its looks :(

Any other good ideas??

It all depends on how much your willing to spend on the fish. My all time favorite fish has to be Gulper cats. Mine ate out of my hand same day they were brought home. They have no fear are open water uummmm wobblers and cute as a button. Imagine if Pacman was real he'd be this fish. They get to about 11 inches and a 30 is pushing it, but as they're not really a patroling kind of fish you could probably keep one in there. They just kind of sit there hovering waiting for food all day. However unless infinite aquatics starts selling fish again your looking at a $250 dollar fish. Other than that maybe a Electric Blue Jack Dempsey is a nice looking fish. Though I'd really say 55 gallon for them even though they only get around 8 inches, but maybe you'll upgrade after he's grown out a little. Only other small fish I can think of are Convicts or Firemouths as far as cichlids go. Or if your into massive aggression piranha like pack attacks, but way less skittish than most P's are Exodons. Small cheap in the right set-up pretty fish, all hiding that vicious little monster inside. Just remember they have to be kept in schools or they'll even turn on each other. Good luck with your descision hope I helped.

Thats to expensive, and i already have piranha and jack Dempsey in my basement. Would a flower horn be alright possibly in a 30g tank?

for a growout tank they need a 75gal.

wait kolt your saying a RBP in a 30gallon? you can do that? i hav a 30gallon around here:naughty:

On topic: hmmm you should get some pictus cats! eat everything and really cute if you have 3 they'll all play with eachother. and you could get a FH but you would have to upgrade later

You could do a flowerhorn in a 30 for awhile. I think ultimately a solitary flowerhorn would be fine in a 75 as it's permanent home. That's just my opinion. Jack Dempseys and Green terrors don't get quite as big as oscars but they are very atractive fish too and would last a little while in your 30. I would say you would have about 6 months or so till you needed to find a bigger home. Start saving and start surfing craigslist. Good luck!

Don't get a Flowerhorn, GT, JD or any larger growing cichlid if you plan on keeping it in a 30 for life. Just because they fit, doesn't mean that it should be done. These fish need at least a 55 for life. The Flowerhorn would need a 75. Get a pair of convicts or some Dwarf Cichlids with plants and caves.

Actually, the options are painfully broad. You've got firemouths, cons, angelfish, hoplo cats, rainbow cichlids, bristle-nose plecos... Grab a fish atlas and start plugging names into google. Also, check out tangledupincichlids.com and if you like something you see, find out how big it gets. You might be surprised how many options you really have.
