So I picked up some fish for free off of a guy that was moving out of state and could use some help IDing a couple of them. I'm thinking maybe a Jack Dempsey or a Flowerhorn for the one with the nuchal hump. And wasn't sure on the black and blue one either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Black and blue looks like all the Jack Dempseys that I have had in the past...humphead is probably a Flowerhorn.

I agree with K krichardson
Black and blue is a Jack Dempsey, I’m thinking male. This is mine to compare:

The blue one is 100% a flowerhorn. Most likely it will not take kindly to the tankmates and can kill/injure most of them, they are best kept alone.
Nice leporinus btw!

Thanks,I can only guess on the FH as I have never kept one and don't know a whole lot about them. The coloring and hump seems like a strong giveaway though.

I haven’t kept one either, but I agree you can definitely tell when you see one. The patterning and hump as well as overall chunkiness are something pretty much only they have.

Yep and I have also heard that they can be quite nasty to other fish lol.

Thanks for all the quick responses. Looks like I've got a Flowerhorn and Dempsey added to the mix. The guy also gave me a couple golden severums, a couple geos, and some giant danios. So far no real problems adding them all in with my aro, mayan, silver dollars, and banded leporinus. Except for the one geo that disappeared, presumably a victim of the 2ft arowana. Definitely a little overstocked in the 220 at this point, but the guy couldn't take them with him, so I figured they'd be better off with me in the 220 than getting dropped off at the fish store. I'm actually seeing a lot more movement in the tank and less territorial aggression with the additional fish. The flowerhorn is feisty but not really bullying anyone so far. Maybe when he gets as big as the full grown mayan it'll start reeking some havoc, but they have plenty of hiding places. So far so good.

May want to move that aro though - a 220 is a puddle to one.

Nice free pickup, yeah that is a flowerhorn and jack dempsey.
I agree the Aro will need a bigger tank, and the 220 would be about fully stocked without it, once all the other fish are fully grown. Sounds like you already know it'll be tight, and you probably have some time before it's crucial, once the cichlids are all adults.
