This came into my lfs mixed in with a bunch of kribs. Looks like some sort of tilapia?
What do you all think? I may pick it up tomorrow.

These are the best of the pics that I took today (they suck I know), it is in one of their mixed african tanks and is getting slightly beaten on.

Thanks,

That, my friend, is a beautiful Tilapia mariae. Haven't seen one in years. Very aggressive. I would want it if it were possible.

Cool, I will pick it up then (if of course it is legal).

I have read here that this tilapia is a banned species in the USA, does anyone know if it is banned in Canada?

Burt:)

Yes, I've kept numerous Tilapia species. This (mariae) is not a big Tilapia as far as Tilapias go, but as with all Tilapias, they are voracious and very aggressive. The mariae can be a little timid when small, but not for long.

How big is "not a big tilapia"? Fishbase says they get to 15", but my Dr. Axelrod's Atlas says only 8"?
I am figuring on a 48X18 footprint for this guy....

i had a breeding pair of these fish and the females was SO Agressive after they had there fry, although they my look cute as babys. my female was so bad she started by killing her partner then everything thing else so we had to take her back to the shop as i couldnt cope with the stress of waking up everyday wondering which fish she had eaten or injured . she was a very bad fish lol
