I currently have a Pumpkinseed Sunfish, the two Green Sunfish, and two minnows in the tank. (Caught the minnows at the pond, hoping to get a school of them). I was wondering, would it be safe to put my baby Bullhead into the tank? He is only an inch, so I would be worried about someone eating him...

The bullhead might be eaten, but in my experience sunfish tend to stay away from bullhead. I wouldn't risk it though.
That's actually a different species (L. macrochirus), not just a different local name.Iffrat;3322177; said:i catch them in the same areas in the local lakes .. toss my line in the same place at catch both .. but thats nothing like them together in a tank
fyi my largest "bluegill" common name around here is around 10" and over a lb .. so they get much larger then they look.

And that's actually a green sunfishXbluegill hybrid. They are a very commonly farmed game fish. At the hatchery where I used to work, we almost exclusively carried the hybrid bluegill (occasionally pure bluegill, and never greens-but kept several display specimens that would occasionally turn up in a hybrid batchchefrific;3322193; said:definitely a green sunfish. A beauty of one too! Nice colors! They get pretty big in the ponds around here.
I agree that it's too risky. With the bullhead's spines, if they did try to eat him (and they probably would), he would probably be lodged in the greens mouth killing the cat and the greenHoyo12;3324067; said:I just measured the tank again, the tank is actually a 50 Gallon. 3'x18"x18" (Still a bit small, but better than a 10-Gallon, lol)
The minnows are a pretty large size, and I haven't seen any attempts yet to eat them. (Maybe 3 inches) I won't put the Bullheads into the tank then. Too risky.
