endlers looks better!

I tried kitty litter with sand a few years ago, but I didn't really know what I was doing at the time and it was a disaster. Now I think I could probably pull it off. Sometime when I have the space I might experiment with it in one of my 20 or 29s

What do you think you did wrong? Any suggestions or tips?

hmm i think a green spotted puffer would sweet.
not sure if they eat plants...
maybe a few of them?

green spotted puffers would be to big for a 10 gal and they are really difficult you could do a dwarf puffer or two

i have used potting soil but under gravel gives good growth but can rot and makes planting a hassle as it makes a hell of a mess. lots of people just use kitty litter as it is clay but remember any substrate is gona run out of nutrients anf the plants will get it all from the water collum so as long as it holds the plants well and you like the look i would go by that.

i had no idea you could use kitty litter! lol i would use sand.. but thats just me.
