If commercial fishing devastated the amount of supposedly 250-300 lb blue cats, then that means that many of these 250-300 lb blue cats would have been caught, and there probably would have been actual documented proof of giant blue catfish, instead of just supposed sightings. Sorry, but I find that hard to believe that bluecats can grow to 300 lbs considering the world record right now is 135 lbs.
There wouldn't be much proof if people ate them over a century ago or something,I dare u to prove u ate a hamburger even 5 years ago

Crazy video. RTCs have a history of eating technology. When the conquistador Orellana was exploring the Amazon, his party had to fight off numerous attacks from indigenous tribes using just 3 or 4 arquebus guns. At one point, one of the explorers dropped an arquebus bolt overboard, making the gun useless...a disastrous occurrence. But that night, the explorers were fishing to replenish their food and caught a monstrous catfish that had the bolt inside of its stomach.
Thank you blackbullhead blackbullhead , just added a good story to this thread!

Wow LOL

I'm gonna have a real hard time refuting you on this, because you appear to lack the basic knowledge of fisheries for me to be able to frame it for you. Unmanaged fishing pressure suppresses the size of fishes in a watershed. That's not even a supposition, it's one of the most basic tenants of fisheries management.

This is true, whether or not you choose to believe it. Constantine Rafinesque, the guy who literally named many of the plants and animals in America for the first time in the early 1800s, is widely considered a reliable authority. He did his surveys in the Midwest after the Louisiana Purchase. He described 6,700 new species of plant and animal. He published works on evolution 30 years before Darwin. This guy knew his stuff. If that man claimed that 250+ pound blues were not unusual in a time prior to commercial fishing, I'm inclined to believe him.

This isn't "just supposed sightings".

"The stomach of the monstrous fish contained fragments of human bones, as well as German military artifacts dating back to the Second World War.

Alfons Brzozowski and Marek Zdanowicz were fishing near the Oder’s confluence with the Bóbr river on April 6, when they made an astonishing catch: a gigantic Wels catfish, measuring 12 feet (3.68 meters) and weighing 413 pounds (187.5 kg).

Their celebration was rapidly transformed into interrogation, and then disgust, when they opened the animal’s belly. Among a large quantity of half-digested fish, they discovered an old metal insignia dating back to Nazi Germany, as well dozens of human bone fragments.

The two fishermen rapidly contacted the police, who opened an investigation to determine the origin of the remains."

Sorry wont quite fit here but I had to copy it. Second biggest wells I have hear of. Also some sort of proof catfish can swallow people.

Or rather their remains

The aro legend and the one about black fish come from asian beliefs, mainly Chinese...

But the black fish are also normally Black Mollys which get used as far as Fung Shui goes...

To be more accurate. Basic fengshui rule regarding goldfish. 8 gold and 1 black.

Back in the early 2000 during the flowerhorn explosion. The pet stores sold plastic numbered balls so the fish could pick lottery numbers for you. My dad tried it, yes the fish picked numbers, no he didn't get rich.

There are so many myths and legends surrounding fish and fung shui in Chinese culture that its hard to list them all, as im sure there are still more examples out there...
