fish nerd experience of the day

ok so today I saw on TV about hurricane Felix crashing into Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica... and the first thing that I thought of was....."wow how crazy is that for the dovii there?" Then I instantly said "wow, that was the biggest fish nerd comment I have ever made" I feel for anyone that has lost anything in this carnage and apologize if this offends anyone.....but that is what came to my head.

So come on and post your "fish nerd" comments or experiences.

I worked with a guy I thought looked like a convict cichlid. It was the shape of his nose, and how his eyes were positioned on his face.

I, of course, never brought this to his attention

Today in my first day back to school (finally a Senior.. thank god), in my Natural Resources class, I was the only person that the teacher has ever had that could tell you the gH, pH, and kH of the local water, as well as how much Nitrogen, Potassium, Phosphate, and Copper were in the water, and then how to go about changing each thing. I felt like such a dork explaining it, and evem more of a dork explaining that I have to do it atleast once a week to maintain 6 mini-ecosystems.

LOL same here! Everyone calls me Hydro now because I know alot about water lol and had taught them all these things.

I thought the same thing (weather nerd ) I know dovii, managuense come from the coca river basin in nicaragua. If it makes you feel any better it hit a very remote area(mosqito coast) with cat 5 winds mostly tropical rainforest,but i to feel bad for anyone that was in felix way.

I always feel weird talking about fish in front of my parents when I'm at the LFS. Whenever I say sciencetific names, or talking about beneficial bacteria and the nitrogen cycle is weird because I just get a blank look from my dad and my mom kind of cocks her head and frowns lol.

I'm the exact same way. My mom's doctor's office has a Malawi cichlid setup. I'm not expert with Malawians, but I can tell you a Yellow Lab from a man-made OB Peacock, from a P. Saulosi, so I kinda just started rambling on and on about them, and then I noticed the secretary giving me an odd look.

I was just at a LPS near me and I was telling my mother EVERYTHING lol. Nitrogen cycles, water qualities, which ones a hybrid, what is the differences between each individual fish, why they need the certain water qualities, i mean like anything you can think of was coming out of my mouth. Took me like an hour and half to get out of the store and all i bought was blood worms and some containers of Bio-Max lol. I was going to buy a Marineland C-360 while I was there but they wanted I think $229 for it and I would just order it from the DRS anyway. My mom never liked pets that much but over the years she has come to love every single one of them. My dad however was a HUGE fishkeeper but has cut down on his tanks.
