How do you guys afford these huge tanks? I would never even have a 55gal if my wifes boss didnt give us everything. i really want some thing bigger like 125+ but i look at prices and your talking 1G just for the tank! plus everything else.... geez...you have to take another loan on your house! Not to mention Hawaii is rediculus with all their laws! my 55gal was saltwater then i did more research and realized its harder to do saltwater here than anywhere else, because you can only buy fish...no coral...live rock....anything that doesnt look or act like a fish!!!!!!!! IM ON A ISLAND SURROUNDED BY SALT WATER!!!!!!!!! :swear: :swear: there is tons of everything out there!! just wanted to gets some feedback and to VENT!!!!!! :swear: :swear: :swear:

i see...........i want some monsters....any ideas for a 55gal........GT? Kenyi?

There are ways to save money. I have never paid more than $2/gal for any of my tanks (100+ tanks). I shop the used ads, I advertise in the free classifieds (especially around Xmas when people are looking for extra cash), and I shop unclaimed storage. In fact, I have to drive out to pick up a 250 gal, stand, and accessories tomorrow morning. Price: $125.
Before the 250gal, I bought a used 360gal acrylic tank for $220.
The deals are out there (estate sales, divorce sales, etc.). You just have to be innovative and patient for the right deals to come along.

RUXPIN is right everyone here is greedy........VERY GREEDY.....talked to a guy today about another 55gal.....he said "came with my house i just bought" "nothing in it " and oh yeah he wants $400 for it.........free for him!!!!!

Self-storage owners advertise when they're holding unclaimed/unpaid for storage unit contents in most local newspapers. Larger storage companies have websites that they announce these sales/auctions on.

There are deals that can be found in HI. A good source is the Family Service Centers classifieds post boards (actual and virtual) near the military bases and the base newspapers/newsletters. Single military and families have weight limits for relocations. Also, alot opt for DITY (do it yourself) moves. I got a bunch of tanks from military folks needing to get rid of weight/bulk for their relocations.
